Nandi is a famous character from Hindu mythology. Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati used to sit on the auspicious 'Nandi' cow and travel all over the world according to the Hindu Vedas. If you visit a Shiva temple any where, you will always see Nandi statues outside the shrine safeguarding the Lord's sanctum.
